curated by Katarzyna Różniak-Szabelska

'Additional Scenes' brings together works by Wojciech Bruszewski, Paweł Kwiek, Yarema Malashchuk & Roman Khimei, Małgorzata Potocka, Józef Robakowski and the 'Workshop of the Film Form'. Presented in collaboration with the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and with the support of the Polish Institute Vienna, the exhibition connects the experimental film practices of the Polish Neo-Avant-Garde of the 1970s with contemporary approaches to moving image. The exhibition traces signs of love and affection within one of the most analytical currents of the Polish Neo-Avant-Garde, shedding light on the artists' attempt to understand film as an open form of communication without cinematic conventions. It also examines relationships between artists as spaces of collaboration and care, while questioning how these have shaped and at times distorted visibility in art history. These questions are extended into the present through works by Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei, whose practice examines the construction of cinematic imagery against the backdrop of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Here too, exposing the artificiality of cinematic representation opens the possibility of authentic connection between filmmakers, actors and viewers.
