The Burrow

'The Burrow' after a story by Franz Kafka In the performance with accompanying exhibition, Cathérine Lehnerer, Anne Altmeyer and Lisa Rosetta Hartmann take us on a journey into the labyrinthine realms of the creature from Franz Kafka's story 'The Burrow'. For the creature, fear becomes the determining content of life as the actual hunter begins to regard itself as hunted and burrows deeper and deeper into its burrow. Its supposed safe space becomes a prison as it loses itself in the depths of its underground maze of fear. Navigating through fear becomes an endless pursuit unto itself, namely when the creature declares fear to be a fetish. At the same time, 'Navigating Angst' becomes a concrete symbol. In the live performance, Kafka's story becomes a sonic comic, illustrated by Cathérine Lehnerer in the style of a graphic novel on the window panes of the vitrine of Atelier Moos. The act of painting is meanwhile accompanied by Anne Altmeyer with electronic sound art and narrative elements. Lisa Rosetta Hartmann's photographs of prepared, lovingly bandaged and laid out small animals, the small stuff that the creature from the story consumes and collects, in exhibition and spatial installation, complement the narrative with a perspective from another side. Thus they not only comment on what falls out of view when navigating fear, but also on the relationship between humans and the environment. They are tribute and repair of an irretrievable future. Additionally, comic zines by the artists on Kafka's story will be exhibited and the process of engaging with the literary material made experiential.
