In Limbo or On How to Move On

We work within a state of temporariness — between experiment and constraint, openness and regulation, collective use and individual uncertainty. Fear appears less as a motif of individual works, but rather as a structural condition that inscribes itself directly in materials, working methods and forms of collaboration. At the same time, we do not understand fear as something that must be overcome or repressed. Even though it co-determines current artistic production, it should not become the sole measure of artistic decisions. Rather, we are interested in how an awareness of uncertainty can develop without being completely consumed by it. Fear can be both a motor and an inhibition — it makes breaks, fragilities and limits visible, but at the same time opens up new forms of attention, resilience and experiment. New forms of collaboration, new modes of expression and the possibility of thinking artistic practice differently emerge precisely within unstable conditions. During Vienna Art Week, visitors navigate through studios, vacant office spaces, transitional zones, installations and performances distributed throughout the entire building. The project does not understand itself as a finished exhibition, but as an open, densifying process within which new works, relationships and performative situations can emerge. Different artistic positions respond to the spatial, social and political conditions of the building and enter into dialogue with one another. Das Nüll is located in a former building of the MA11 opposite a police station in Vienna's 10th district. Once a place of institutional care, administration and control, the building is today temporarily used by artists, cultural practitioners and professionals from widely varying backgrounds.
